Sioux Falls Landscape Design, Installation & Irrigation
Our home market. Fifty years of landscape design, installation and irrigation across every neighborhood in the city.
Groundwater Inc. has shaped Sioux Falls yards for five decades — from the historic stone homes of McKennan Park to new-build lots in Tuscany and Hayward. Every neighborhood has its own soil, drainage and microclimate, and we've solved for all of them.

Soil, site & growing conditions
Most of Sioux Falls sits on heavy clay loam with a high water table near the river bluffs. New developments south and west often need 4–8 inches of imported topsoil before sod takes well. Older established neighborhoods deal with compacted fill from decades of foot traffic — we lead with core aeration and deep root-zone amendment before any planting.
Local know-how
Watch the wind
Sioux Falls sits in the open prairie corridor. Plan windbreak plantings (Black Hills spruce, Norway pine) on the northwest exposure of any patio or fire-pit area or your guests will be cold by 7pm in October.
Plant zone 4b, not zone 5
Big-box stores routinely stock zone 5 material that won't survive a polar-vortex winter. Stick to zone 3–4 hardy varieties — your investment lasts.
Permit reality check
Sioux Falls requires a permit for retaining walls over 4 feet and any irrigation tap to the city main. We pull permits as part of every install — never an afterthought.
